About Green Energy
We hear all the time how conventional sources of energy are being run down and that something needs to be done to provide renewable green power. Viewing Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth, we get an impression that we need to change our ways and reduce our use of fossil fuels. The environmental impacts by climate change and atmospheric pollution will result in actual irreversible harm to our planet.
For a really good guide on solar power, take a look at Types of Renewable Energy
It is a first-class idea for us to make the most of renewable green energy technology because the continued use of fossil fuels and nuclear power present plain hazards to the environment and the globes climate. There are an ever increased number of renewable green energy technology choices that we should take note of. Most significantly solar, wind and waterpower have massive energy reserves than that will total considerably more than of all the domestic fossil fuel reserves that we have left. With the current damage we are doing to the environment, we need to reduce our use of fossil fuels.
The increased use of renewable green power technologies will help to protect our environment against irrecoverable damage that may arise from our continued use of fossil fuels. It is widely accepted by the climatology community that our human actions have accelerated global warming and already caused much harm. The planet gets it heat from the suns rays while greenhouse gases such a carbon dioxide compound this by trapping the heat in the atmosphere. Accelerated global warming has been produced by the burning of fossil fuels like wood, coal and oil, this releases carbon dioxide, one of the main greenhouse gases. This in itself, doesn’t sound too bad does it? We’d all like to live somewhere a little warmer and a little more sun! Nevertheless we have exasperated the situation by annihilateing rain forests, plant and animal life, diminishing the planets natural healing. The consequence of our activities has been to globally reduce the extent of ice sheets and glaciers, warming of polar regions and causing deadly heat waves and floods.
Check out Types of Renewable Power for more information on Solar Energy
In an effort to cut the affects of accelerated global warming, we should be utilising renewable green energy technologies such as wind and solar energy to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels. Solar energy is a renewable and sustainable resource that uses the suns radiation to generate power. Buildings are currently being designed to use the advantages of passive solar technology helping to contribute to the lighting and heating requirements. Currently, smaller domestic solar generators are being utilized in a number of countries to provide hot water to the home, reducing owners heating bills and carbon footprints. We need to take full benefit of renewable green energy, and climate change is a worldwide issue so we all need to make a contribution.

Using energy efficient principles to design houses can lower the amount of fossil fuels used to produce lighting and heating. Natural Light is allowed into the house during the winter by using large windows, screens help cool the rooms in warmer months and outdoor lighting uses solar panels. To prevent the loss of surplus heat to the environment, you can put in wall and loft cavity insulation as well as a solar powered hot water system. To guarantee that we have a greener and cleaner future lacking harmful pollutants we all need to be taking steps to lowering our use of fossil fuels by utilizing renewable green power.
Is it safe to use a 12-2 romex wiring to run a 3-way light switch? USING 16 GAUGE NEUTRAL WIRE AS THIRD WIRE.?
I pulled out a group of KNOB and TUBE WIRING to update it. I was changing 3-way switches and noticed that the previous owners used the neutral wire from a 12-2 romex wiring to splice in with the knob and tube wiring to run power from switch to switch. The old knob and tube wiring was the source of power running through the fixture first then to the switches. I know it should be a 12-3 romex wire but I'm curious to know if the neutral wire will melt if I run a new power source through the switch first then to the fixture. The neutral wire is approximately 16 gauge and insulated with thin green insulated plastic. Real skinny wire. Please help. It will be rather difficult to pull the 12-2 romex wiring out unless I open up the walls. Thanks.
Sorry. I do mean the GROUNDING WIRE...not the white neutral.
No.
Period.
1. In 120VAC circuits all current carrying conductors must be the same gauge.
2. The wire in the green insulation is designated as a ground only. It may not be used to carry current.
What you are considering violates several parts of the National Electric Code. It would make your home owners insurance void.
I am sorry about that, but you really need to take the time and spend the money to do this correctly in order to keep your home as safe as possible.
Now as for the theorhetical situation you mention...
1. The 16 gauge wire will be prone to overheating and melting off the insulation, and then causing a fire.
2. In residential wiring the smallest circuit is 15 amp, and this requires 14 GA wire minimum. 16 gauge wire is not even recognized by the code as acceptable in any use in a house. (Back in the olden days, about 20-25 years ago it was allowable, by exception to the rule, to derate the ground to a smaller gauge. This is no longer true.)
