Ice Fishing Gear
Ice fishing is carried out on a frozen body of water. Lines and spears are part of the ice fishing gear together with other tools meant to break the hard surface and cut a hole for uniform access to the unfrozen depths underneath. The sitting position is preferred for ice fishing too, as the fishermen can stay either on special stools or directly on the ice. For some, ice fishing is all the more enjoyable as they have built real sheds or cabins around the ice openings, bringing the comfort of a bunk bed with them.
Ice Fishing is considered a popular and even necessary activity in the cold areas on our globe. Latvia, Norway, Finland, Germany, Russia, Estonia and other Northern countries have given ice fishing the rank of favorite pastime as it has long ceased to earn one's living now. The Great popularity levels are reputed by ice fishing in the North of the United States, as well as in Canada and Alaska.
As for the type of fishing gear used for ice fishing, technologies now allow the use of more complex methods with superior results. A fishing line or a spear could turn out worthless in this type of activity if you do not have an ice saw or a chisel at hand to begin with. Remember that an opening in the ice is required first and foremost. But water will keep freezing even after you have made the hole, so most fishermen also get a skimmer with them to remove that newly formed ice layer. Most people also bring heaters along, not just to prevent ice formation but also to preserve a level of personal comfort too. That is why wooden huts or cabins that capture the heat indoors are widely preferred by ice fishing fans.
There are three ways to go ice fishing. First, you can use small-sized rods with colorful little lures or baits. The second makes use of tip-ups and they are very useful when you are not interested in catching a lot of fish over a longer period of time. And finally, let's mention spear ice fishing that depends on large hole making and fish decoys.
Whichever the choice from the three methods, we can compare nowadays success of these fishermen’s activity with that of long ago ice fishing. It seems that today, with the help of sonars, ice fishing lovers can identify the areas where fish are located in the large body of water under the ice. Then, with the help of commercial fishing devices fishermen will drill about 100 holes per day if they wished to catch large amounts of fish, very much unlike our ancestors who had to wait by the hole for the fish to come to them.
Rupert Murdoch Is the Parent to Ask for Ice Cream (New York Magazine)
Although Rupert Murdoch's adult daughter Elisabeth has had to fight to get her
father's attention (and another of Murdoch's six children from three marriages
is in, uh, a somewhat uncomfortable position at the moment), the mogul's two
youngest daughters with Wendi Deng are apparently well behaved and thus, the
apples of his eye. At Monday’s Baby Buggy Gala, we asked Deng if her husband
indulges the girls, Grace, 10, and Chloe, 8. "Oh, he tries not to," Mrs.
Murdoch said. "But it's hard to say no because they're so lovely," she said,
laughing. "He reads to them, and [when] I didn’t want them to have ice cream,
Rupert gave them ice cream. Yeah, they often get it from him." But papa
doesn’t give in on _everything — _at least not yet_. _"They want a pet; they
love dogs, they want a guinea pig," Deng said. Well, Rupert?
