Independent expediting services have the ability to process the renewal application within 24-48 hours. Though this service carries an additional fee above the standard government processing charges, it is an excellent option for someone needing a passport immediately.
There are special passport renewal rules for minors. All minors whose initial passport was issued when they were under age 16 must renew the passport in person. The renewal process is similar to those renewing via mail. The minor must complete a renew passports application, return the expired passport, provide two identical passport photos, and pay a fee. If the minor wishes to have the passport expedited, the options of the government expediting and independent expediting services are available for additional fees.
