Popcorn Bags
Fun Popcorn Projects For Rainy Days
It's easy for kids to get bored and worked up when the weather outdoors is dreary. And actually, you might even find that you get somewhat bored yourself. If you are stuck indoors, it can be fun to have some family time by planning a few quick craft projects. Even if you're running low on art supplies, you can often find anything you might need in a cupboard in your kitchen. If you have got a bag of un-popped popcorn, you will have enough supplies to amuse both you and your kid for the whole afternoon. Here are some great ideas for fast and easy projects using popcorn.
Bean Bags
Although they are not really called "corn bags," popcorn can very easily be used as an alternative for beans when you sew these fun little bags. Actually, they can even be easier to use than beans since they are not as big. Get a few fabric scraps and sew them into little bags. If you are feeling creative, you could make them in unique shapes, such as animals or cars. But if you prefer to keep it basic you can just sew plain squares, but be sure to leave roughly 2 inches open on one of the sides. Be sure to put the correct sides of the fabric together before sewing, so that you will be able to flip them before filling them. When you have the bags sewed, fill a large container with popcorn kernels. Then allow your youngsters to fill up the bags with the popcorn . This process is easier if you can use a funnel. Fill the little bag approximately two thirds full then sew the opening shut. You can then organize a few fun games that can be played indoors, such as a competition to see who can toss the most bags in a box or bucket. Or, play a tossing game such as "Hot Potato" with the sacks. Don't forget to take some pictures of these fun memories which are being made, so that you will be able to place them in some cute kids picture frames.
Mosaic Art
If your popcorn is multi-colored, mosaic artwork is a great thing to make. Give your child a square of lightweight cardboard, for instance a piece of poster board. They can draw simple designs on the board as a guide for putting on the popcorn. Distribute white glue on each part of the drawing. And then while the glue is still fresh, apply the popcorn kernels to the cardboard. Keep on gluing different shades of popcorn until the design is all filled. Let them dry well, and then you will be able to hang some of these mosaics in colorful photo frames on your walls. Or you may even use the finished products as fun trivets for all of your hot pots and pans.
Popcorn Jewelry and Room Decorations
Stringing popcorn is often a lot of fun, even when it is not the holiday time of year. Pop a big bowl's worth of corn. Then give each kid a yarn needle threaded with quilting thread or lightweight string. They may then string the popped kernels of corn, alternating with dry cereal rings if they want to for variety. You can then hang the pretty strands around your house for decoration. Or, create shorter strands, knotting the two ends together to make popcorn necklaces. Take some shots of your cute youngsters all wearing their lovely popcorn jewelry, and then place them in some fun picture frames.
So if you are running out of fun ideas on a rainy day, then don't worry. Your kids will love showing their crafty abilities with these fun and artistic popcorn crafts.
