The Method To Tell A True Diamond From A Phony
Brought to you by cushion cut solitaire engagement rings.
The surest method to determine if a diamond is real or not is to go to a professional for an evaluation. It takes more than a jewelers' loupe for clever amateurs to assess a stone. Even trained professionals are finding it difficult to determine a "real" diamond.
While that may be true, there are still things that have to be considered and followed. If you purchase an already set diamond, look at the bands metal stamp (10k, 14k, 18l, Pl, ect.), as using a precious metal band increases the chances that the ring's creator used a real stone as well.
If you have access to a jeweler's loupe or maybe a nice magnification glass, you should check out the edges as well as the girdle band of the cut stone. One way to tell if it is not real is to look at the edges, if they appear soft and have a rolled appearance than you can be sure it is a fake. So does a clear, waxy-smooth girdle at the place of meeting and changing direction of facets around the stone's belly.
Also you can use the loupe to look inside the stone for damage or nicks. These were created naturally and are difficult to copy. Natural diamonds are most valuable when they have the fewest flaws; unfortunately minor flaws, which are often allowed through, cannot be easily spotted by an amateur.
Generally, weight may be utilized as a normal indicator for those types of things. Simulated diamonds have a significantly different weight than an authentic diamond; cubic zirconium is much heavier. In order to compare diamonds, you require a precision scale and samples of real diamonds.
Never try to scratch glass using your diamond. When checking jewelry for content do not use acid tests primarily used on metals. Don't give in to your curiosity and try to smash a diamond because it will crush because it is a crystalline material. Just fog the stone. A pure diamond shifts the heat very fast to clear the stone before you can see it. Its only a hint, nothing else and its not definite. Be careful about composition diamonds, which have a base of one material and a table top made of diamonds, this will pass a diamond tester, but be relatively worthless.
Always remember to have a professional appraisal done so that you'll know the diamond isn't a fake. That is why extra caution should be used when choosing a new jeweler, and each new gem or stone should have come with a certificate of authenticity. Each stone is unique and the documentation can go a long way to establish your stone.. When you put your trust in a reputable, professional jeweler, who works with reliable sources, you will find a person who can be relied upon for a quality grade of appraisal, help in making a selection and reliability.
Not making any negative generalizations, but be quite cautious when having a stone appraised at a chain jewelry store. Businesses such as these demonstrate the pros and cons of ass produced distribution and manufacturing. Chain jewelry stores while competent in themselves still will not give you the expertise of a higher end store or assessment business.
In order to find these you must check the yellow pages or on the computer for internet advertisements offering appraisal services, also take the time to learn about the history, licensing, and the experience of the assessor. The good indications of skill are a Licensed jeweler, a good journeyman in a traditional program and a dealer who has been dealing with stones previously.
Request that you be allowed to observe the testing of any stone you bring in. This is to escape swapping from dishonest jewelers.. Turn around and walk right back out if you are refused. Request complete documentation if purchasing a stone. Identifying real diamonds is difficult enough to make even pros think twice and look three times.

Question about food safety at a public school?
I own a janitorial service company and we were cleaning in the school cafeteria and I was changing out the fluorescent light bulbs (the ones that needed changing). One of the bulbs dropped and busted. We had moved some large tubs of potato salad out of the freezers to move some stuff around and some of the glass may have gotten in one of the containers that didn't have a lid on it at the time. I picked glass off the table, but didn't see any glass in the food container. Well, now I am having second thoughts and wondering if I should call the school. Thing is, I really need this account and if I call I could lose this account, which I don't to happen. Since fluorescent bulbs are not true glass, would small amounts just pass through someone's digestive tract?
I didn't see anything in the food, I think it will be okay. I was concerned initially, but I think everything should be okay now.
You must report the accident to the school. Should one the students be harmed, it won' take Dick Tracy to figure out the culprit, then you will be in big trouble.
How did this happen? If there is not a guard across the lights? If not the school is in violation of safety regulations. If there was a guard and you just dropped it, you really messed up and need to contact the school and face the consequences.
True Fabrications Tabletop Decanter (woot)
**How Encouraging**
The True Fabrications Tabletop Decanter is one heck of a salesman.
According to True Fabrications, the decanter “encourages your wine to
naturally aerate.” This is accomplished primarily through the use of a deep
punt that increases the surface area, thus enticing rich flavors and aromas
out of the wine. But, after doing some research, we found that the decanter
also has quite a few secondary aeration-encouraging techniques, such as:
**Positive Reinforcement:** If the wine begins to aerate, even just a little
bit, the decanter might give it a pat on the back and say, “nice work.”
**Rewarding Good Behavior:** The decanter will sometimes bake cookies for a
wine that aerates particularly swiftly. Of course, the cookies are kind of a
tease. It never actually serves them to the wine, so you don’t need to worry
about pouring a guest a glass of red and finding that it’s full of cookie
chunks or anything.
**Reverse Psychology:** For particularly rebellious wines, the decanter will
encourage against aeration, making aeration appear frowned-upon or counter-
culture, thus making it appealing.
**Peer Pressure:** The decanter will tell the wine that it should try
aerating, and that everybody’s doing it. “So if ...
